Emerging

Just living is not enough, said the butterfly,
one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower.
Hans Christian Andersen

a snippet from my journal:

It's time to begin. Begin loving my self.
I've been the larva, the caterpillar, and wrapped tight in the chrysalis;
now, it's time to spread my wings and become the butterfly.
It's time to fully, wholly love myself.
The goddess within me (the divine creative force) is ready to emerge.
It is time to love myself  f r e e...........

We delight in the beauty of the butterfly,
but rarely admit the changes it has done through to achieve that beauty.
Maya Angelou

I recently came across these words I wrote above -
of becoming the butterfly.
They were tucked away and hiding in an old journal.... until now.
And today, upon re-reading them - I am re-awakened.

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time.
Deborah Chaskin

I am leaving behind the limited ways of life forever
and entering into the 5th dimension of peace; of peace with self.
Not just peace, but purpose, place and power --
of being authentic - of being me - of being whole.

How does one become a butterfly? she asked pensively.
You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.
Trina Paulus

Now, where is my dress?

...oh here it is!

In writing this I am reminded of a poem I read long ago....

Imagine a Woman

Imagine a woman who believes it is right and good she is woman.
A woman who honors her experience and tells her stories.
Who refuses to carry the sins of others within her body and life.

Imagine a woman who has acknowledged the pasts influence on the present.
A woman who has walked through her past.
Who has healed into the present.

Imagine a woman in love with her own body.
A woman who believes her body is enough, just as it is.
Who celebrates her body's rhythms and cycles as an exquisite resource.

Imagine a woman who embraces her sexuality as her own.
A woman who delights in pleasuring herself.
Who experiences her erotic sensations without shame or guilt.

Imagine a woman who honors the body of the Goddess in her changing body.
A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her years and her wisdom.
Who refuses to use her precious life-energy disguising the changes in her body and life.

Imagine a woman who has access to the full range of human emotion.
A woman who expresses her feelings clearly and directly.
Who allows them to pass through her as gracefully as the breath.

Imagine a woman who tells the truth.
A woman who trusts her experience of the world and expresses it.
Who refuses to defer to the thoughts, perceptions, and responses of others.

Imagine a woman who follows her creative impulses.
A woman who produces original creations.
Who refuses to color inside someone else's lines.

Imagine a woman who names her own gods.
A woman who imagines the divine in her image and likeness.
Who designs a personal spirituality to inform her daily life.

Imagine a woman who refuses to surrender to gods, gurus, and higher powers.
A woman who has descended into her own inner life.
Who asserts her will in harmony with its impulses and instincts.

Imagine a woman who is interested in her own life.
A woman who embraces her life as teacher, healer, and challenge.
Who is grateful for the ordinary moments of beauty and grace.

Imagine a woman who authors her own life.
A woman who trusts her inner sense of what is right for her.
Who refuses to twist her life out of shape to meet the expectations of others.

Imagine a woman who participates in her own life.
A woman who meets each challenge with creativity.
Who takes action on her own behalf with clarity and strength.

Imagine a woman who has crafted a fully formed solitude.
A woman who is available to herself.
Who chooses friends and lovers with the capacity to respect her solitude.

Imagine a woman who refuses to diminish her life so others will feel better.
A woman who brings the fullness of her years, experience, and wisdom into each relationship.
Who expects others to be blessed and challenged by her presence in their lives.

Imagine a woman who assumes equality in her relationships.
A woman who no longer believes she is inferior to men and in need of their salvation.
Who has taken her rightful place in the human community.

Imagine a woman who refuses to use her precious life-energy managing crisis and conflict.
A woman whose relationships deepen in satisfaction and contentment without depleting her.
Who chooses friends and lovers with the capacity to navigate the challenges of life.

Imagine a woman who values the women in her life.
A woman who sits in circles of women.
Who is reminded of the truth about herself when she forgets.

Imagine a woman who has relinquished the desire for intellectual safety and approval.
A woman who makes a powerful statement with every word she speaks,
every action she takes.
Who asserts to herself the right to reorder the world.

Imagine a woman who has grown in knowledge and love of herself.
A woman who has vowed faithfulness to her own life and capacities.
Who remains loyal to herself. Regardless.

Imagine yourself as this woman.

The poem that inspired the book
Imagine a Woman in Love with Herself.
by: Patricia Lynn Reilly

An Excerpt:
Our beloved planet is in desperate need of women who have moved from self-loathing to self-love, from self-criticism to self-celebration. Women who design woman-affirming solutions to the challenges confronting humankind as it enters the 21st century. Women who use their personal and communal resources to give birth to images of inclusion, poems of truth, rituals of healing, experiences of transformation, relationships of equality, and households of compassion. Women full of themselves!

Butterfly Woman by Walter Oliver Neal

... And recently, I came upon her altered version of the above poem:
(I think I like it even more - for its simplicity.)

Imagine a woman

who believes it is right and good she is woman.
A woman who honors her experience and tells her stories.
Who refuses to carry the sins of others within her body and life.

Imagine a woman
who believes she is good.
A woman who trusts and respects herself.
Who listens to her needs and desires and meets them with tenderness and grace.

Imagine a woman
who has acknowledged the past's influence on the present.
A woman who has walked through her past.
Who has healed into the present.

Imagine a woman
who authors her own life.
A woman who exerts, initiates, and moves on her own behalf.
Who refuses to surrender except to her truest self and to her wisest voice.

Imagine a woman
who names her own gods.
A woman who imagines the divine in her image and likeness.
Who designs her own spirituality and allows it to inform her daily life.

Imagine a woman
in love with her own body.
A woman who believes her body is enough, just as it is.
Who celebrates her body and its rhythms and cycles as an exquisite resource.

Imagine a woman
who honors the face of the Goddess in her changing face.
A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her years and her wisdom.
Who refuses to use her precious life energy disguising the changes in her body and life.

Imagine a woman
who values the women in her life.
A woman who sits in circles of women.
Who is reminded of the truth about herself when she forgets.

Imagine yourself as this woman.

I do! I do! I do!
I imagine myself as this woman.
Do you?

You are beautiful.

Self Love Ritual

In the quiet of the day or night -
When you are alone and will be undisturbed -

Set aside sacred time to perform this self love ritual.
This ritual was written to assist weight loss, but
I've added some alternatives to promote body love.

Vintage photograph

You'll need:

White candle
Full length mirror
Blessed oil (you can say a blessing over any massage oil)

To begin - Speak:

“North East South West,
Please be with me to serve me best,

Earth Air Fire Water,
Please bring your forces to help your daughter.”

Perform the ritual:

Light the candle

 Look in the mirror (naked)

Mirror Mirror

Rub oil all over your body

And chant: (willfully mean what you say)

“I wish to lose ___ pounds,
(I wish to love what I see when I look at me,)
Reveal my path by leaps and bounds,
Speed my metabolism, craving only healthy foods,
(Speed my acceptance, craving only the essence of me,)
Curb my appetite, and stop my binging moods,
(Curb my criticisms, and stop my self hate,)

Bring me happiness, and health,
With no harm, bring the one true wealth.”

Concentrate on your image in the mirror,
focus on your shape changing to a more pleasing figure.
(focus on your shape, it is a perfect version of the divine feminine.)

Let the candle burn all the way down.
(by this time you should be really energized)

Chant with as much energy as you can:

“Goddess with in, bring my Goddess with out,
Let my beauty shine through, day in and day out”

“So mote it be.

Water Fire Air Earth,
Thank you for bringing rebirth,

West South East North,
Thank you for helping me so I can go forth.”

Repeat once a month or more if needed.
by Janelle Aten

“This is what rituals are for. We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don't have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down. We all need such places of ritual safekeeping. And I do believe that if your culture or tradition doesn't have the specific ritual you are craving, then you are absolutely permitted to make up a ceremony of your own devising, fixing your own broken-down emotional systems with all the do-it-yourself resourcefulness of a generous plumber/poet.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

My Wish For You...

My wish is sent along with this image:

Use it as a sacred meditational place where you can go
and be quiet within yourself - to dream, relax and renew.

My wish is that you will find that you are love,
you are safe & all is in perfect divine order.

Trust in the beauty that is your path;
knowing all will unfold gently and gracefully before you
as you walk your soul path.

Remember:

take time each and every day

to play,

to learn,

to share,

to laugh,

to dream

to pamper yourself in little and meaningful ways.

very good advice I will take myself, and offer to you.
My heart let in my love.

You are beautiful.

Love Is Who You Are

“To love yourself as you are is a miracle,
and to seek yourself is to have found yourself, for now.
And now is all we have, and love is who we are.”
— Anne Lamott

Willow Arlenea - Self Love

A woman alone, her heart aching with pain, goes out and lays upon the earth.
Now she must learn to love herself. As she learns to open her heart to herself, nature responds.
Butterflies and dragonflies remind her that the world is still full of magic and that love itself is the fabric of life.

Loving ones self is not always easy... yet why?
Could it be we are afraid to love ourselves more than we've ever been loved?
Are we afraid no other love could then ever measure up and thus satisfy us?

I dare you, (and my self)
To love fully every aspect of who we are -
wrinkles, flaws, weaknesses and all.

Imagine this:
By loving our selves completely, we are free.
Our authentic self is released and allowed to be!
Imagine all that she can accomplish in a single day -
When there is nothing holding her back or down.

Blessings to you darling - as you journey the path of beauty.

You are beautiful.

Self Love Mirror Ritual

The Mirror  by Sir Frank Dicksee

A ritual is a set of actions performed mainly for their symbolic value. Wikipedia

The mirror is the ritual tool we'll be using this month,
as we practice nine ways of looking within and reflecting our inner beauty:

1. In a quiet, solitary place, look in the mirror. Silently peer into the depth of your soulful eyes. With an open heart, mind and awareness, see who you really are. Smile.
2. Look into the mirror and say aloud "I love you." It isn't always easy, but it is the beginning of loving yourself for who you really are. Altering the words (and tone) we use toward ourselves to be uplifting, true, and kind is vital for creating a positive self image and deep sense of inner beauty. It's this reflection we then show to others.
3. Be gentle with your self. Withhold judgement. Adorn your self, but don't allow your self to believe that your value is in adornments. See your naked beauty as more than enough. Use the mirror as a magick looking glass - envision yourself healthy, vibrant, and shining from within.
4. When you look into the mirror during your daily routine, focus on your beauty, instead of your perceived flaws.Take time to make choices that are in alignment and in harmony with the divine expression of true beauty. Love, kindness, patience, forgiveness and understanding are truest signs of beauty.
5. Stand before a full length mirror. Close your eyes a moment. Feel the presence of a Queen enter into your body and mind. Open your eyes when you believe you'll see Her in your face and body. Conducting yourself as befitting a goddess enables you to better embodying the goddess. Your integrity, confidence and uniqueness are the bright and shiny glow of true inner beauty.
6. Mirrors are every where. In the face of another, in a puddle or a lake, in the eyes of your lover, or the window shop as we walk by... Use these ever changing mirrors as opportunities to glow. Smile at your self. Smile at others. Smiles radiate positive energy. Remember, a smile can uplift even a tired face.
7. We also are mirrors. We can forget that anothers wishes, rules, or expectations can taint the way we see our life, our self and our world. Live your passions. Be enthusiastic about your life. Your most beautiful when you're happy in your daily walk. Walking the path of beauty requires courage, honesty and the willingness to follow your true hearts desire. Be true to yourself, and others will be inspired, and more open to the vast possibilites.
8. Our experiences, perception, and beliefs are also mirrors - mirrors that teach lessons. Listen. Listen to your own inner wisdom. Take care of your needs in a timely fashion. Make sacred every act you perform. Find something positive in every lesson, circumstance and gift.
9. And when you are ready, break the mirror without fear of bad luck, or other superstitions. Be the butterfly. Change. Transform. Allow your inner beauty to show for all the world to see. Do not hide behind fear, but instead shine bright. You are beautiful, inside and out!

Standing in My Place of Power

Wati Manson Singapore, June 2011

I have chosen to stand in my power
I have chosen to speak out and sing
the song of my birth
the song of my destiny
the song that connects me
to every living thing
I am awakening
I am emerging
powerful woman
as strong as the sea
see my shining
see me most radiant
for I have chosen
to remember and be
powerful and glorious
knowing and compassionate
woman reborn
in my choice to be free
